Monticello TAP – Transition Alliance Program

What is TAP?

TAP (Transition Alliance Program) is a partnership between Monticello Community School District and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS). The goal for each TAP student is competitive integrated employment, whether that is directly out of high school or after completing post-secondary training.

TAP provides the following Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) to Monticello students:

  • Job Exploration Counseling
  • Work-Based Learning Experiences
  • Counseling on Opportunities
  • Workplace Readiness Training
  • Self Advocacy Instruction

TAP provides post-secondary training and employment support services to graduates of Monticello who have been determined eligible for IVRS while in high school.

A student must have one of the following (A or B or C and D):

a. Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
b. 504 plan
c. Documented diagnosis that presents barriers to employment
d. Completed Pre-ETS agreement and IVRS consent form

About Monticello’s TAP Coordinator

Angie Kurt-Sconsa serves as Monticello’s Vocational Rehabilitation Transition Alliance Program (TAP) Coordinator through Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services. With many years of experience in education, Angie has also spent several years supporting students as a TAP coordinator. In addition to her work with TAP, she teaches special education in Monticello.

Parents, teachers, and Monticello staff can refer students to this important program. This supports them in finding integrated employment, whether right after high school or following post-secondary training. If there are students you feel could use pre-employment services, Angie is available at Monticello High School on Tuesdays through Thursdays.

You can reach her by email at angie.sconsa@monticello.k12.ia.us or by phone at 319-480-3873.
