Hello everyone!
Here is my video for the week or scroll down for a quick summary.
Have a great weekend! GO PANTHERS!
Brian Jaeger, Superintendent
Calendar Adjustments
- October Schedule Swap: To accommodate hosting the state qualifier cross-country meet on Thursday, October 22, the district is swapping early dismissal days. October 21 (Wednesday) will now be a full day, and October 22 (Thursday) will be an early dismissal at 1:00 PM.
- Next Year’s Calendar: Moving the elementary school will add roughly 15 minutes to each school day, potentially allowing the school year to end several days earlier (around mid-May). Draft proposals are still being developed.
Facility Plans & Land Swap
- City Land Swap: The district is working on a comparable acre-for-acre land swap with the city. The city would take ownership/maintenance of the Shannon softball complex, while the district would secure ownership of the football stadium, transportation center, and transition building.
- Shannon & Carpenter Elementary Buildings:
- The district is preparing an asbestos abatement and demolition plan to secure lower autumn/winter contractor rates if no alternative use is found.
- Community Input: From January through June, community members are invited to share alternative ideas for the buildings during the 3-minute public comment section at monthly board meetings.
- Final Decision: The school board will make a final decision in July.
Traffic Study & Infrastructure
- Highway 38 Traffic Study: Snyder & Associates will deploy video equipment next week to update the district’s 2019 traffic study during drop-off and pick-up hours.
- DOT Grant Application: Findings will be turned over to the city to apply for DOT grants for turning lanes on Highway 38. If approved, construction would likely occur the summer after the new building opens.
District Events
- Homecoming: Wrap-up of Homecoming week activities, including the Friday night football game and the Saturday dance.
