Guidance News

  • The Workplace Learning Connection Internship Portal is now open for any 10th or 11th grade students interested in doing a summer internship. Students earn one dual credit through their high school and Kirkwood for their internship experience. Interns work 32 hours in the workplace learning firsthand about the job/career. They also attend three classes with a WLC Internship Coordinator developing professional skills. If you are interested in applying for an internship, please fill out the application form at https://www.kirkwood.edu/workplace-learning-connection/internships/index. The summer internship portal will close on February 6th at 3pm. If you have any questions, please contact Julie Welter at julie.welter@kirkwood.edu.
  • The last chance for all Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors to sign up for a job shadow through the Workplace Learning Connection for the 2025-26 school year is between January 5th-January 21st at 3pm. Check out all the options on our website and resister for them at www.kirkwood.edu/wlc. These days have maximum capacities set so don’t wait to register! The following are local options for Portal III in Jones County:

Engineering and Machining Careers in Advanced Manufacturing: Metal Design Systems, Inc., Anamosa- Date: Wed., Feb. 11th 9:30-11:30am

Discover Design: Job Shadow a Product Designer, Polo Custom Products, Monticello- Date: TBD (Spring)

Explore Engineering: Manufacturing and Project, Polo Custom Products, Monticello- Date: TBD (Spring)

Construction Day – Boomerang, Anamosa– Date TBD (late March or beginning of April)

Health Care Careers and Sim Lab Experience – Anamosa- Date: Wednesday, April 22, 8:30-12:00

Correctional Careers Day: Anamosa State Penitentiary, Anamosa (must be 18 by the date of the Job Shadow)- Date: Tuesday, April 28th 8:00am-2:30pm
