Hello! My name is Officer Erik Honda, and I’m proud to serve as the School Resource Officer (SRO) for the Monticello School District. I’ve been with the Monticello Police Department since 2015, where I also serve as a certified instructor in Axon (Taser), Defensive Tactics, and Less-Lethal Tools.
Before joining the police department, I spent seven years as a special education teacher in Dubuque. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Dubuque and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Morningside University.
As the district’s School Resource Officer, my role is to build positive relationships between law enforcement and our school community. I work with staff on school safety, serve as a mentor and resource for students, and help lead classroom lessons on several topics like safety awareness and drug/alcohol prevention.
My goal is to maintain a positive and visible presence in all of the school buildings, help foster a safe learning environment, and support students, staff, and families throughout the year.
I’m excited to be part of the Monticello Schools community and look forward to connecting with everyone!
