SODA is again working with the American Heart Association to raise money and awareness. If you would like to buy a AHA shirt to wear when we have a Heart Association Red out in February, here is the link. https://sodaahafundraiser.itemorder.com/ The store will be open until December 23.
Monticello Sports Live is looking for 1-2 students to keep stats for the live broadcast during the Varsity basketball games. Software is easy to run. If you are interested contact Mrs. Carlson in the library or by email kim.carlson@monticello.k12.ia.us
Monticello Fire Department is looking for junior firefighters to fill their open spots. If you are interested in Fire Science or interested in learning more about being a firefighter, this may be for you. Individuals must be 16+ and hold a 2.0 GPA or higher. As a Junior Firefighter, members serve in a support role for the senior firefighters at actual emergencies & are able to train side by side in the weekly/monthly training exercises held at the MFD. If interested in learning more or applying for an open spot, guidelines & applications are available in the HS Office.

You must turn in a senior picture and baby picture before winter break if you want one. After the deadline we cannot accept them, and we will submit yearbook pages using your most recent school photo and no baby photo.

Silver Service Opportunity:
The Rotary is sponsoring a Disney Trivia event on January 15th at the Berndes Center. They are looking for HS students interested in Silver Service hours to help with concessions and to help with activities/movies with younger children. The time would be from 5-9pm. Ohnward Bank and Trust is looking for a student part-time employee.
Hours: Work afternoons during the week 1:00 to 5:00. These weekday hours could have some flexibility too. Saturday mornings 9:00 to 11:30 every Saturday.
Duties: Teller work – process deposits from our customers, cashing checks, making change for our business customers, take any request for maintenance changes so they could be updated in our system by staff, wrapping coin, etc.

Counselor’s News:
Juniors can explore a career through a summer internship by signing up here December 13th-February 9th. Students receive one elective credit for completing a 90-hour internship.
Seniors planning to attend college next year should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. See Mrs. Stenger after completing it for a free pop-it!
Seniors that still need to apply to college: December 6th-16th Iowa college representatives will be available virtually to help students complete college applications and answer questions about their college. See the schedule and sign up here.
Scholarships are beginning to be posted. They will be posted alphabetically by name of scholarship as we post them. When active, the scholarship name will be turned green. Go to the school’s website at www.monticello.k12.ia.us and go to the High School page. Click on the Counseling tab, then click on Scholarships on the right. Special Education Teacher Scholarship – is for a graduating senior who is planning to student Education, specifically Special Education. Go to www.claimaid.com/se-teacher-scholarship to apply. Deadline is January 15, 2022.

Iowa State University’s Beta Sigma Psi Scholarship – Designated for men attending Iowa State University. Applicants do not need to join Beta Sigma Psi to be awarded a scholarship. This organization is founded on three core values: Spiritual, Scholastic and Social. Charles Nicolay Education Foundation Scholarship Program – The Masonry Institute of Iowa set up this scholarship to support Iowa students continuing their education in the Construction/Architecture/Engineering fields.
