I just want to send out a quick update about our COVID numbers. We currently have 16 positive COVID cases K-12 (staff and students). That means we are up about 5 cases from last week. We have about 48 cases (staff and students) that we are monitoring. That includes those in quarantine, waiting for COVID testing results, or out with COVID like symptoms. The number of staff and students we are monitoring has dropped 8 cases this week.
The Iowa Department of Public Health reports that Jones County has a 7-day positivity rate of 11%. That is up 2% from last week. The number of positive COVID cases in the last 7 days is 78 and that is up from 40 cases last week.
One other piece of data that I will share this week is the number of positive COVID cases (staff and students) in the Monticello Community School District from August 23 through September 16, 2020 (7 cases) and August 23 through September 16, 2021 (29 cases). As you can see, that number has gone up 22 cases this year.
I would also like to thank all of you who have responded to our surveys this week. There are currently 143 staff responses and 429 parent responses to our surveys. These will be reviewed by the school board before the September 27th school board meeting along with several other pieces of information to help paint a clear picture of our situation. The surveys are still open through today if you have not yet responded.
That is it for this week, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Happy Homecoming and be safe!
Dr. Brian Jaeger
