We are running this schedule to ensure that students have the opportunity to meet with all their classes before SID (Standard Improvement Day) on Friday, March 12. This will be the last day students are able to improve grades from January 14th through March 11th curriculum.
Weight room hours:
Before School – Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 6:45-7:45am
After School – Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3:15-4:30pm
Kirkwood is hoping to arrange virtual career presentations for careers you are interested in. Please take this 2 question survey to help them plan.
Students who completed paperwork to take Kirkwood classes next year and have not enrolled in Dual Enroll, Kirkwood will be contacting you to schedule an individual appointment.
NHS applications are available at the office drive up window and on the district website. Applications are due to the high school office by Friday, March 12 at 3:15. No exceptions will be made for late submissions. Sophomores and Juniors with a 3.5 GPA and 40 hours of documented community service are eligible to apply.

Sophomores that would like to take a practice ACT test Wednesday, March 24th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm should sign up with Mrs. Stenger by Thursday, March 11th. The Pre-ACT is free for sophomores.

All students, especially seniors, should be checking out the Scholarship webpage. Scholarship season is starting and information and applications will begin to be posted. Past scholarship applications are listed to help you research the ones you want to apply for – look at the old applications to get an idea of how to answer questions and essays then watch for the updated application. Watch for deadlines and how to submit the applications. Also check out the Counseling Announcements for information on colleges, college visits and contacts plus other counseling information.
College representatives will be arranging virtual college visits with our school this year. See a list of the scheduled colleges and a link to the Zoom meeting by visiting here. More will be added as they schedule with us.

Mattress Advisor Sleep Scholarship – Applicant must be enrolled full-time at an accredited US college or university. Go to www.mattressadvisor.com/sleep-scholarships for list of scholarship opportunities and eligibility. Online application. Deadline is March 20, 2021.
Professional Educators of Iowa Scholarships – Student awards include Teacher of Tomorrow Scholarship, the Ed Christian Scholarship, the Educational Persistence Scholarship and the College Book Scholarship. Information on eligibility and requirements as well as the application can be found on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is April 1, 2021
Starlighters II Theater Scholarship – To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, the applicant must meet one or more of the following criteria: Be a resident of Jones County, attend a Jones County school and/or have participated in at least one Starlighters II mainstage production. Must be a graduating senior and will submit plans to enter a program leading to a degree in Theater, Music or Dance. Information and application can be found on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is April 23, 2021.
Monticello Firefighters/Don McCarthy Memorial Scholarship – Applicant must be graduating from Monticello High School and planning to register as a full-time student at the college of their choice. Must be a current or past Junior Firefighter and/or student pursuing any type of degree in Fire Science or EMS. Information and application can be found on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is April 27, 2021.
Monticello Firefighters/Richmond Kromminga Memorial Scholarship – All Monticello seniors are eligible to apply. Information and application can be found on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is April 27, 2021.
Ray Schneider Living Endowment for Youth Scholarship – Any graduating Monticello High School senior is eligible to apply. Must be planning to attend a post-secondary educational program at an accredited trade school, college or university. Information and application can be found at www.rayzorray.com . Application is also available on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is April 15, 2021.
Monticello High School Fine Arts Boosters Scholarship – Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0, have been involved in high school choir or band 3 or their 4 years and must be pursuing a music-related major in college. Information and application can be found on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is April 23, 2021.
Lloyd & Joyce Welter Endowed Scholarship – Applicant must be a Monticello graduate with at least 2.5 GPA. Criteria includes economic need, citizenship, predictability for success and academic achievement. Information and application can be found on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is March 30, 2021.
Eastern Iowa Men’s Golf Association Scholarship – Applicants must be active male members in one of the EIGA affiliated clubs and plans to attend a college, university, 2-year community college or junior college, business college, trade school or professional golf school.
