Tree Fundraiser: Student Council is holding a fundraiser to raise money for Trees Forever to help regrow trees that were knocked down in the derecho last summer. They will be selling “leaves” and “trees” during lunch for $1, 5, 10, or 20.
Book Drive: Student Council is also holding a book drive. Please bring gently used books and place them in the box in the front entry.
Any girls interested in playing softball this summer please sign up in the high school office by Friday of this week.
Attention Juniors and Seniors — Post Prom donation & Post Prom entry fee/shirt forms are available at the office drive-up window, on the Monticello Post Prom Page on Facebook, and at this link Post Prom Parent Donor Letter 2021.pdf. Please return the forms to the office by Monday, March 22.
Scholarships are updated every day – all students, but especially seniors and juniors, should be checking to see what scholarships they may be eligible for! One local scholarship, the Sacred Heart Carpenter Scholarship is due February 28th! If you are eligible, the applications can be picked up at the Sacred Heart Church Office. Don’t miss out!
There will be a Girls Soccer sign-up meeting on Tuesday, February 23 in the auditorium at 3:30.
Sophomores that would like to take a practice ACT test Wednesday, March 24th from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm should sign up with Mrs. Stenger by Thursday, March 11th. The Pre-ACT is free for sophomores.
Driver’s Ed registration forms are available at the office drive-up window. Forms are due in the office on Friday, February 26th.
Juniors and Seniors: If you are interested in entering a contest to design the Post-Prom t-shirt, get your entry to Mrs. Woodhouse by 3:15 on Feb 26. The design will need to be in one color with the theme Under the Sea, and the words Monticello Post Prom 2021. See Mrs. Woodhouse if you have any questions.
M Town Tire and Auto in Monticello is currently looking for a part-time employee that would like to learn automotive and tire repair. The position would be a mix of helping and learning automotive, tire repair, shop maintenance, customer service, and shop cleaning duties. We are a small shop and treat our employees like family. We currently have 2 full-time employees that been with us for 8 years. 1 employee came to us right out of high school and has stayed and grown with our shop. The Eastern Iowa Sports Facility is open for the winter sports season. Cages can be rented on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8AM – 8PM. Also Wednesdays and Fridays from 8AM – 4PM. The cost to rent a cage is $20.00 for an hour and $12.50 for a half hour, plus tax. Call 319-480-9878 to schedule a time.
The Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union is looking for female student-athletes interested in serving on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The 11-member committee is comprised of two female athletes from each of the state’s four districts (NE, SE, NW, SW), along with 3 “at-large” representatives. Committee members serve a two-year term. Five seats will become available at the conclusion of the 2021 school year. Applications may be submitted electronically or mailed to the IGHSAU by April 12, 2021. Silver Service/Community Service Opportunities:
The Children’s Cancer Connection has several volunteer opportunities which include: being a camp counselor at Camp Heart and at day camps, a special events volunteer and making fleece tie blankets. See information on the Counseling bulletin board in the hallway outside the counseling office.
Animal Welfare Friends has numerous silver service/community service opportunities available.
Walk and or brush dogs. There is always a need for walking and brushing dogs during shelter hours Tuesday through Saturday noon to 6:30! Help with AWF Sponsor a Pet Program. Some people love animals but are not able to personally have one. AWF will soon be offering the opportunity for individuals to sponsor a shelter dog or cat. Past scholarship applications are listed to help you research the ones you want to apply for – look at the old applications to get an idea of how to answer questions and essays then watch for the updated application. Athene USA Game Changer Scholars Program – This scholarship is designed to support Black, African American, Latino, Latina, Latinx, and Hispanic students in reaching their educational goals. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior, a recent graduate or a current college undergraduate at a two or four year Iowa college. Must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Iowa Pork Producers Association Scholarships – Applicant must be an Iowa resident enrolled in an Iowa college or university planning to major in an agriculture-related field with an emphasis on the swine industry. Iowa College Aid Scholarships – Go to www.iowacollegeaid.gov/lastdollar for information on the Last Dollar Scholarship offered to graduation seniors. This scholarship will cover tuition for postsecondary credentials up to two-year degrees leading to rewarding high-demand jobs. Continue to search this site and/or go to www.iowacollegeaid.gov for listings of many scholarships and grants. See the website for all requirements and different deadlines.
Children’s Cancer Connection Empowering Scholarship – Applicant must be directly affected by childhood cancer (have or have had cancer before age 18 or a sibling of that individual). Must also live within the service area and must plan to attend an accredited two or four-year institution. Jacquie Lambert Memorial Scholarship – Applicant must be a Monticello senior planning to pursue a higher education in the nursing field. Must have at least a 2.0 GPA.
