Class scheduling for the 2021-2022 school year has begun. Please watch this video to learn about the high school scheduling process. This powerpoint contains links for students to schedule advising meetings with Mrs. Stenger and/or Julie Welter, Kirkwood Advisor. To learn more about registering for Kirkwood classes, watch this video. High school and Kirkwood scheduling forms are due to the office Monday, February 8th by 3:15 pm.

Karli Recker is hosting a Blood Drive Wednesday, February 3rd from 2:30 pm-6:30 pm at the Berndes Center in Monticello. Senior families, it is time for college award letters to be sent out. See this video to learn more about what an award letter looks like and what to do.
Musical auditions are rescheduled to February 1st at 3:30 and 7:00 and February 2nd at 3:30 in the choir room. See Mrs. Osterkamp with any questions.

Students are required to social distance at lunch. Only 4 students to a table.
Mrs. Young and Mrs. Stenger will be in the commons during lunch to help students with scheduling for 2021-22.
Silver Service/Community Service Opportunities:
Animal Welfare Friends has numerous silver service/community service opportunities available.
Walk and or brush dogs. There is always a need for walking and brushing dogs during shelter hours Tuesday through Saturday noon to 6:30! For your first time, please call Amy, the AWF shelter manager, to schedule a shelter tour and learn about shelter protocol for walking and brushing. 319- 975-8283. After your first visit, drop ins are welcome when it works in your schedule. Feel free to bring a friend!

Monthly van maintenance. A generous donor recently blessed AWF with a newer Dodge Caravan and we are anxious to show our appreciation by keeping the van in top shape. Organization of an event to promote and or support AWF. Perhaps you or a group you belong to would like to organize an activity to promote Animal Welfare Friends. Ideas include but are not limited to: dog walks, bake sales, 5ks, spare change collection (domestic or foreign) microchip events, garage sales inner or area school fundraiser challenges, cookie and candy walks. Shelter research. Many businesses and corporations offer programs for free or reduced supplies for shelters like AWF. Occasionally, someone will bring an opportunity to our attention but at times, we lack the man power to research these opportunities. Help with AWF Sponsor a Pet Program. Some people love animals but are not able to personally have one. AWF will soon be offering the opportunity for individuals to sponsor a shelter dog or cat. All students, especially seniors, should be checking out the Scholarship webpage. Scholarship season is starting and information and applications will begin to be posted. Past scholarship applications are listed to help you research the ones you want to apply for – look at the old applications to get an idea of how to answer questions and essays then watch for the updated application. Watch for deadlines and how to submit the applications. Also check out the Counseling Announcements for information on colleges, college visits and contacts plus other counseling information.
College representatives will be arranging virtual college visits with our school this year. See a list of the scheduled colleges and a link to the Zoom meeting by visiting here. More will be added as they schedule with us.
Cedar Rapids Association of Realtors Scholarship – A need-based scholarship that focuses on students who have suffered a hardship (family, financial, emotional, medical, etc) that would not necessarily qualify for scholarships. Must be admitted to an accredited Iowa university, college, community college or trade school. Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA. Information and application forms can be found on the Scholarship web page linked from the HS Counseling website. Deadline is March 12, 2021.
Iowa Newspaper Foundation Scholarships – Applicants must be planning to pursue a career in the newspaper industry. Go to www.inanews.com/learn/scholarships to see the list of all available scholarships and to apply online. Deadline is February 12, 2021.
Elize Aunahn Memorial Brainfuse Scholarship – Applicant must be a junior or senior in high school who have tireless work ethic as demonstrated through school, employment, volunteer contributions and extracurricular activities. Must have a successful academic record, strong leadership abilities and exceptional personal success. Must have a need for financial assistance. Monticello Rotary/L. Dale Greenawald Scholarship & the Rotary Business Scholarship. – Greenawald Scholarship – any student is eligible, preference will be given to students with musical interest and talent and plans to major in a music program. Business Scholarship – plans to major in business. Both based on academic achievement, citizenship, financial need, probability of success and character. Iowa Student Loan Iowa Financial Know-How Challenge: Senior Scholarship – Applicants must be Iowa high school seniors planning to attend college in the fall. Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship – Applicant must be a high school senior planning to attend an accredited and approved four-year institution.
