Over the last several days I have been monitoring our COVID situation very closely. In Monticello our positivity rate is at 31.6%. In Jones County the positivity rate is 43.6%. In our schools we have a 5.2% absentee rate with over 140 students out for COVID related reasons. The most concerning is the fact that we have 34 staff members out for COVID related reasons at this time. In addition, we have several students and staff waiting for COVID test results.
All that being considered we will complete our regularly scheduled online learning day on Wednesday, November 11th and then temporarily switch to online learning for Thursday, November 12th and Friday, November 13th. We will be making an application to the state to extend our temporary online learning through and including November 24th. Then following the Thanksgiving break we will resume in person classes on November 30 if it is safe to do so at that time.
I hope you understand this was not an easy decision but it is the right decision for the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.
Brian Jaeger, Superintendent
