Students are reminded to put your cell phone in the phone caddy when you enter a classroom.
Students are not allowed to take backpacks, bags, or purses into classrooms. Those items need to be locked in your locker.
St. John’s Daycare is looking for anyone who is 16 or older interested in employment this spring (is not out for a spring sport) and/or employment this summer. The hours are from your availability to 5:30pm. Contact Natalee Herrig at sjcdaycare@gmail.com or 319-480-0211.
If you haven’t taken a Kirkwood course yet and plan to next year, now is the time to apply. Some courses will require placement testing before February so plan ahead. Deadlines will be enforced. Students wanting to take Kirkwood’s Composition, Statistics, or an online class next year must complete required testing before January 21st. Students can sign up with Mrs. Stenger to test January 15th at 8:30 in the high school building.

Mercy Medical Center, Hall-Perrine Cancer Center is hosting an event called Hall-Perrine’s 2020 Prom – Your Skin is In! This event will take place on Sunday, January 19th, 2020 from 2-4pm. This event is held at the cancer center each year to encourage teens to choose safer alternatives to tanning beds to prepare for prom. See the flyer posted outside the office.
Any girl interested in going out for softball this summer needs to sign up in the office. 1st indoor practice will be Thursday, January 23rd.
The Monticello High School Student Council will be sponsoring a Winter Food/Toiletry Drive for the Monticello Food Pantry from January 14-24. Our goal this year is to bring in 1000 high need items. A list of high need items has been provided in every classroom and there are lists hanging all around the building. To help promote our Winter Food/Toiletry Drive, Monticello students and community fans who bring in four items to the January 17th basketball game against the Bellevue Comets will have free admission. Thank you for your generosity.
Dystonia Medical Research Foundation from Marion IA is announcing their 2020 T-Shirt Design Contest! The contest is open to any high school or middle school student. See information on the Counseling bulletin board. The winning t-shirt design will be featured at the Hope On A Leash Dog Walk that will take place at Thomas Park in Marion on August 29, 2020. Deadline to submit a design is February 28, 2020.
High School Scheduling Dates
The following dates are of note for 8-11th grade students in regards to scheduling high school credit and college credit classes for next year:
- Friday, January 17th: 8th graders tour high school
- Tuesday, January 21st: 9-11th grade scheduling meetings
- Thursday, January 23rd: 8th grade scheduling meetings
- Tuesday, January 28th: Kirkwood & AP Courses family meeting at 7:00 pm
- Tuesday, February 4th: High School & Kirkwood registration sheets due
- Monday, February 10th: Kirkwood class requests in Dual Enroll
- Tuesday, February 11th: 9-11th grades request classes in Powerschool
- Thursday, February 13th: 8th graders request classes in Powerschool
- Monday, April 6th: 9th Grade Orientation for 8th grade students & parents at 5:30 pm
If your child misses any of the dates above, please remind them to stop in the high school office as soon as possible so they do not miss opportunities for next year.

A rep from Hawkeye Community College will be in the commons during the second lunch shift on Tues., February 4th. Stop by and ask any questions you may have about Hawkeye!
Grand Lodge of Iowa – MCEC Technical Scholarship – Applicant must be a graduating Iowa high school senior planning to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College. The applicant’s academic record, communication skills and need for financial assistance will be considered. Information and application can be found on the 2020 Scholarship Application webpage posted on the MHS Counseling website. Deadline: March 1, 2020
