Town Hall on Drugs & Alcohol in our Community-October 15

People can eat pizza from 5:30-6:30 while visiting the Volunteer and Health Fair before the speakers. Families of middle school and high school students can come straight from sports Also at the Health Fair is a free mini-training on Naloxone (Narcan) and free Narcan will be given away to anyone who comes to that mini-training at the ASAC table/booth.

These speakers will present from 6:30-8:

Rod Courtney was a probation officer from Cedar Rapids for most of his career. He will tell us his family’s story of alcohol use disorder, other substance misuse, and losing their son to a heroin overdose. Rod and his wife, Debbie, have had their story featured in the USA Today recently. They are just amazing people now running the organization CRUSH of Iowa (Community Resources United to Stop Heroin).

We’ll also be hearing from Lindsey Powers, from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, who now leads the Eastern Iowa Heroin Initiative. Lindsey is an awesome speaker that was at Midland Schools last year. She’ll fill us in on some important facts we all need to know.

Finally, Jeffrey Stamm, the Director of the Midwest HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) will be coming to speak to us all the way from Kansas City. He will be telling us the trends they are seeing with THC, meth and more. There will also be an opportunity to discuss these issues in our community with the panel of speakers.
