New Iowa Statewide Assessments – ISASP

Dear Parents,

For several years students in our district, as well as districts across the state, have been assessed on an annual basis with the Iowa Assessments. The Monticello Community School District has traditionally elected to administer these assessments in October.

Last spring the Iowa legislature determined that all students in Iowa would be assessed using a new test called the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP). These new assessments are developed by Iowa Testing Programs at the University of Iowa delivered and supported by Iowa-based Pearson, for the state of Iowa. The assessments are aligned with the Iowa Core standards and are to provide districts with a clear and accurate assessment of student learning outcomes. Student growth, proficiency and readiness indicators will be reported.

The new assessments are required to be administered between March and May 2019 and will be available in online and paper formats. The grade levels, tests, and recommended administration times are provided below:

Test Grade Levels Recommended Administration Time
Reading 3-11 60
Language and Writing 3-11 120
Math 3-11 60
Science 5,8,10 6o

Monticello students will take these assessments during the weeks of April 1-12; using the online format. During this first year of administration, it is anticipated that results may not be available until early fall of 2019.

If you have any questions about these assessments, please contact Gretchen Kriegel, Curriculum and Special Programs Director at or 319-465-3575 x2210
