Student Bulletin                          Monday, April 8                                                                     Day 2

 

There will be a Senior Class meeting for all seniors at 8:00 am on Wednesday, April 10th in the auditorium.  This is a mandatory meeting for all seniors.  Lots of important information!  Please be there!!

 

Junior & Seniors:  If you have invited a guest to prom who is not a Monticello junior or senior, you must register your guest in the office.  There is a pad to write your guest’s name on.    Keep in mind that you may invite only one guest and your guests can not be a middle school student.  Be sure to pick up a guest registration form.  Forms need returned to the office by Friday, April 12th.

 

Grand March will be at 4 pm on Saturday, April 13 in the HS Auditorium, doors open at 3:15 and students should check in at 3:45 sharp.

 

Post Prom will be held from 11 pm – 2 am at the HS, doors open at 11:00, close at 12:00. No re-admittance if you leave.  You do not need to attend Prom to attend Post Prom.  Cost is $10 per person if you did not already purchase the post prom t-shirt and you can pay at the door. T-shirts are sold out. You must be at post prom to win a prize!  See some of the prizes on display in Superior Appliance’s front window!  Lots of food, prizes, and activities you won’t want to miss!!!

 

Students wanting to learn about Kirkwood’s twelve ag programs are invited to attend the Kirkwood Ag Day May 14th.  Students should see Mr. Schmitt or Mrs. Stenger to register.

 

All students registered to take Kirkwood Academy classes next year must attend a mandatory orientation meeting held on Wed., April 17 at Monticello HS.  Non-arts & Sciences meet at 6:00 pm then to JREC.  Arts/Science students 7-7:45 pm @ MHS.  A parent must attend as well.  If you cannot attend, contact Kirkwood.  Letters will be sent home with full details!

 

Camp Wyoming (located in Jones County, Iowa) is in need of volunteers this summer. Come serve as a volunteer counselor for one week and earn 120 volunteer or community service hours. There are two different opportunities available.  See the bulletin board outside the counseling office for more info.

 

We want to recognize seniors for the scholarships and awards they have earned.  Seniors are responsible for contacting Mrs. Stenger with this information.  Contact her by May 17th so she can mention or present those awards.  Honors Night is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21st at 7:30 pm.

 

Juniors interested in learning about and submitting applications for National Council on Youth Leadership (NCYL) should plan to meet in the library Wednesday, April 10th at 7:30 am OR 3:15 pm.  If you are planning to apply you must attend one of the meetings.  Applications will be due in the high school office on Tuesday, April 23rd at noon.

 

Silver Service Hours Opportunity —  Mr Thumma, elementary music teacher, needs help on April 25th with the following in the high school gym:  3:30-4:30 – Set-up chairs and risers and 5:15-6:15 – Hand out programs.  If you can help, contact Mr Thumma at nick.thumma@monticello.k12.ia.us

 

Silver Service Opportunity – 8th Grade Orientation is Monday, April 8th – we need at least two students to greet families and have them sign in to this event.  Should be there from 5:10 to approximately 6:00.  Stop in and see Mrs. Stenger or Mrs. Dirks if interested!

 

Today’s Lunch:  Chicken nuggets, French fries, orange slices, roll & butter, and milk.

All Guidance Office announcements will be listed daily for about a week.  If you need to find a past announcement, search in your email for that week’s school announcement list.

 

All students, especially seniors and juniors should become familiar with the High School Counseling webpage on the District’s website.  Scholarships are being added to the National, State and Local Scholarship webpage and there are many scholarships on the site to look at which all will eventually be updated.  There are also links to other scholarship opportunities for all age groups, college rep visits, college visit days, military rep visits, and many other links to browse through.

Raymond G. Schneider Living Endowment for Youth Scholarship-Applicant must be a Monticello High School senior planning to attend a post-secondary institution.  Chosen based on character, academics, community involvement and extra-curricular involvement.  Application can be found on the 2019 Scholarship Application webpage that is linked on the MHS Counseling website.   Deadline: April 15, 2019

 

Monticello Firefighters/Richmond Kromminga Memorial Scholarship – Open to all seniors.  Application can be found on the 2019 Scholarship Application webpage that is linked on the MHS Counseling website.  Deadline:  April 12, 2019

 

Children’s Cancer Connection Empowering Scholarship – Applicant must be from Iowa and has been directly affected by childhood cancer (includes individuals who currently have or have had cancer before the age of 18, or a sibling of that individual), must be planning to attend an accredited two or four-year institution. Two recommendations required plus 10-40 hours of volunteer support.  Application can be found on the 2019 Scholarship Application webpage that is linked on the MHS Counseling website.  Deadline:  Fall Semester is due last Friday in May / Spring Semester is due last Friday in September.

 

MEA/Lubbock Memorial Scholarship – Scholarship is based on student’s scholastic achievement, character, and promise of future contribution to society.  Must have a 20 or better on ACTs.  Preference will be given to those going into education.  Application can be found on the 2019 Scholarship Application page that is linked on the MHS Counseling website.  Deadline:  April 19, 2019

 

Monticello PEO Award in Education – Applicant must be a female graduating senior with at least a 3.0 GPA and planning to pursue a career in education. A former Monticello graduate currently enrolled in college to get their BA in Education may also be considered. The application can be found on the 2019 Scholarship Application page linked from the MHS Counseling website. Deadline: April 12, 2019

 

Starlighters Theater Scholarship – Offered to Jones County seniors who have participated in at least one Starlighters II mainstage production.  Application can be found on the 2019 Scholarship Application webpage linked off the MHS Counseling website.  Deadline:  April 26, 2019
