It is National FFA Week.  Today is “Are You Smarter Than Your Ag Teacher” so go down to Mr. Schmitt’s room during WIN and play games!  Tomorrow go down to the gym and play Ag Olympics during WIN.  The original name was Future Farmers of America.  The name was changed to National FFA Organization in 1988 to reflect its evolution in other diverse agricultural fields including marketing, processing, communications, education, horticulture, production, natural resources, forestry, agribusiness, and more.


School will still run on schedule next week with classes Monday through Thursday.  On Friday, we have a scheduled staff collaboration day (no school for students).  If you are planning to leave school early on Tuesday, be sure to fill out a planned absence form.


Driver’s Ed registration forms are available at the office drive-up window.    Forms are due in the office by March 1st.


Attention Seniors:  Dare Role Model applications are available at the drive-up window.   DARE Role Models are selected through a strict application process—zero tolerance for alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.  Students must have a good driving record, a 3.0 grade point average, no criminal record, and be role models to their peers and younger students.   Submit applications to the Monticello Police Department by TOMORROW.


The Dance Marathon is this Saturday, February 24th from 7-11 pm. No outside drinks are allowed and admission to the dance will be cut off at 8 pm. If you are still interested in coming to Dance Marathon but did not buy a shirt you can pay $5 admission to come enjoy the fun.


Attention Seniors:  Jostens will be back at school to deliver your graduation items on Monday, March 5th during lunch.  Please remember that cash or money orders are the only forms of payments accepted on delivery day at school.  If you have any questions, please call 1-800-JOSTENS (567-8367).


Shannon Elementary offers child care during their conferences and needs some help.  If you are interested in earning silver service hours by assisting with child care, please contact Sandy Hinrichs at Shannon, ext 4114.


Silver Service Opportunity:  Monticello Senior Dining is looking for student help.  They need dishwashers Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 11;30-12:30.  Please call Gina at 465-6723 if interested.


Volunteers are needed for Camp Courageous’ Green Bay Packer Tailgate Tour on Wednesday, April 11th.  Ask Mrs. Stenger how to sign up.


Citizens State Bank – State Basketball Charter Bus.  Cost is $37 which includes advanced admission ticket, refreshments, a light snack, and an enjoyable bus ride.  Contact CSB for more information at 319-465-5921.


Ohnward Band & Trust – State Basketball Charter Bus.  Cost is $27 per person and covers the bus ride only.  You will need to purchase your own ticket and food. Bus will leave the Great Jones County Fairgrounds at 11:00 AM and will stop for lunch in Williamsburg.  Call Pat Recker or Shawnee Oswald at the Monticello office at 319-465-6173 to reserve your seat and for additional information.


Lisa Sperfslage – State Basketball Charter Bus.  Call Lisa at 319-480-1636.  Cost of $31 per person covers your bus ride only.  You will need to purchase your own ticket and food.  The bus will stop for lunch & dinner and will stop in Iowa City to pick up any college students that would like to go.


The Monticello Public Library is setting up a card making station in support of the students and staff at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.  The card making station will be available through Friday, February 23 at our 6:00pm closing time.  We will gather these cards and letters and send them out to show the students and staff that they have support from all around the world.  Please stop by the library if you’d like to participate.


BOYS SOCCER MEETING – Thursday March, 1st @ 3:30-4:00 pm in Mr. Gilkerson’s Room (301). If you can’t attend the meeting, see Mr. Gilkerson before the meeting.


Counseler’s Office –

Kirkwood is hosting a High Tech Girls Day Friday, April 13th.  Attendees will explore labs in software development, network and information security, graphic design, computer hardware repair, and website development.  See Mrs. Stenger for how to register.
