A reminder from the Food Service Department:  If you have a negative balance in your lunch account you are not allowed to purchase any food or drinks from the ala carte.  Food Service will be giving any student that has a negative balance of $20.00 or more a brown bag lunch. This lunch will include a cheese sandwich, baby carrots, and a carton of white milk.  Please check your family’s lunch account and make sure you have a positive balance.  Thank you!


Camp Courageous is in need of some volunteer help. They have over 6,000 schedules that need to go out to their campers, staff, and parents before November. Any students who would be willing to go out and help stuff, fold, tape, and label their mailing would be appreciated. They are looking for help the week of October 10. If you are willing to help them out, please contact Rolando Morales at Camp Courageous.


The Monticello Express and Shoppers’ Guide is challenging all businesses in the Monticello area to help support Breast Cancer Awareness Month for October.   ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS are encouraged to wear PINK on Wednesday, October 19.  Pete Temple will be here to take a picture of everyone wearing pink at

8:00 am in the gym.  Mrs. Lightner will be collecting donations the day of the picture for those that want to wear pink or for anyone wanting to make a donation.  Every $1 donation is appreciated!!



Guidance Office News:

A representative from the University of Dubuque will be in the guidance office today at 1:30.

A Mount Mercy rep will be in the guidance office on Wednesday, October 12 at 10:00.

An Iowa State University rep will be in the guidance office on Tuesday, October 18 at 12:30.


Invest in your future by exploring career options through the Workplace Learning Connection’s student internship programs.  Please see Mrs. S. or go to www.workplace-learning.org if you are interested or want more information about this program.  You must apply by no later than Wednesday, Nov. 2nd.


Capri College is holding their Career Day on November 16 at the Cedar Rapids Capri College from 12:00-3:00 p.m.  Participate in mini-classes, watch live styling, airbrushing, massage demos and more!  Learn what a career in Cosmetology, Esthetics, Massage Therapy and Nail Tech has to offer.  RSVP at 319-364-1541 and at www.capricollege.edu .

Hagan Scholarship application is now available.  The applicant must be an Iowa junior or senior with a 3.5 GPA or higher and have at least a 23 composite score on the ACT.  Check out the information on the school website’s Local & State Scholarship webpage for details on requirements and how to get the application.   Deadline is November 15, 2016

Research online at Iowa College Aid to find important information on Grants and Scholarships in Iowa.  They administer nearly $70 million in grants, scholarships and loan repayment programs.


Distinguished Young Women of Iowa is hosting a 3-day program for senior young women who are involved in school and community activities.  Applicants must also be outstanding in academics, leadership, athletics, or the arts; are interested in gaining experience in public speaking, interviewing and other life skills; and are interested in earning scholarships for college.  Registration ends November 1, 2016.  To register go to www.ia.distinguishedyw.org .
