October is National Principal Month!  Be sure to thank Mrs. Young for all she does for you!!


The Monticello Express and Shoppers’ Guide is challenging all businesses in the Monticello area to help support Breast Cancer Awareness Month for October.   ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS are encouraged to WEAR PINK this Wednesday, October 17th.  Pete Temple from the Express will be here to take a picture of everyone wearing pink at 8:00 am in the gym.  Mrs. Ralston will be collecting donations the day of the picture for those wanting to make a donation to the fight against breast cancer.


The Monticello Eagles are hosting a soup and sandwich supper for Don McCarthy, whom is fighting stage 4 cancer.   The benefit is Saturday, Oct 13th, from 5-8 pm.  If anyone is in need of silver service hours please contact Julie at the Eagles.


There is no school on Monday, October 8th for a Professional Day for teachers.


SENIORS:  Senior and baby pictures for yearbook are due before winter break.  We’d like to have as many as possible by Oct. 31.  After that we will post a list of those missing.  They cannot be accepted after winter break.  Get them in now and cross that off your senior to do list!  Hard copies can be turned in to the office window or Mrs. Woodhouse.  Label them on the back with your name.  Or they may be submitted digitally to Mrs. Woodhouse.  If you email it, check for a confirmation email that it was received.

Guidance News:


All Guidance Office announcements will be listed daily for about a week.  If you need to find a past announcement, search in your email for that week’s school announcement list.


All students, especially seniors and juniors should become familiar with the High School Counseling webpage on the District’s website.  Scholarships are being added to the National, State and Local Scholarship webpage and there are many scholarships on the site to look at which all will eventually be updated.  There are also links to other scholarship opportunities for all age groups, college rep visits, college visit days, military rep visits, and many other links to browse through.


For seniors: The Spring 2019 internship application is now available at https://www.workplacelearningconnections.com/Default.aspx?wpn=WLC .  The deadline is Monday, October 29th.  Please see Mrs. Stenger if you have questions.


A Simpson College rep will be in the guidance office on October 17th at 11:00 a.m.


Reps from the Army will be in the commons during lunch shifts on October 18th.


A Hawkeye Community College rep will be in the guidance office on October 18th at 9:30 a.m.


Horatio Alger Association National & State Scholarships are available.  Applicant must be a graduating senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited public or private institution.  Must demonstrate financial need, be involved in school and community activities.  Also based on academics and be a person who displays integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.  Deadline for National Scholarship is October 25, 2018.  No deadline was given for state – possibly the Oct. 25th date, so check with them!
